Ascert’s 2023 User Group meeting was held at The Tower Hotel in London, in the shadow of the iconic Tower Bridge. During the meeting, Ascert’s users were treated to a whole host of major software updates including SQL database connectivity for VersaTest as well as the support for additional Enscribe file types in Relate EnSQL, Ascert’s latest product that enables users to utilize industry-standard SQL commands to inspect, manage, and repair Enscribe data files. Driver updates and new drivers for VersaTest’s library continue to be a valuable service for VersaTest users, and the company announced updates to VISA, Mastercard, Diners, AMEX, and APACS Drivers. Market driven needs had both Hyosung and JSON Drivers added to the Driver library. Ascert reviewed work done with external databases that improve performance, allow for faster startup times, and support for different back-end storage mechanisms or databases, to name just a few of the enhancements. A number of users presented their VersaTest success stories and several vendor partners, including Barnes International, provided updates on their solutions. Rounding off a whole bevy of product updates is a new version of the VersaTest CBT, that allows users to get trained and run the software in just a few short hours. The new version of the computer-based training includes the many product enhancements and features added over the last 12 months. The Ascert team has been working tirelessly to bring the latest software update for the VersaTest product. Ascert’s newest Relate addition, Relate EnSQL, extends the capabilities of the Relate family of data maintenance products for the NonStop server. Relate allows users to easily query, manage, and compare Enscribe file data. Relate EnSQL extends these capabilities to meet the needs of enterprise environments by providing powerful data management functionality and advanced reporting capabilities. The new product solves many of the limitations inherent in the Enscribe flat file database by using standard SQL syntax for data access without having to replicate the data or intercept any API calls. Included in Relate EnSQL are a local command line interface (CLI) for use directly on the HPE NonStop system and JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) support for both local and remote Java client programs. The command line interface provides comprehensive SQL syntax for querying Enscribe data directly in its file-based form, without needing to export it to an external SQL database. SQL queries are applied directly to the underlying Enscribe data, saving time, effort, and cost. Such queries can be used to discover, analyze, and update file contents in place using standard SQL syntax statements without additional data manipulation. Relate EnSQL's JDBC support allows Java programs to query and update the Enscribe data also using standard Java tools and SQL syntax. The JDBC support includes access directly from Java programs running under the HPE NonStop OSS personality using NonStop Java, or remotely using Java on other platforms (such as Windows or Linux machines). The standard JDBC interface and syntax is supported regardless of whether clients are running locally on the HPE NonStop or remotely. Developed by Ascert over two decades ago to meet the needs of a major U.S. bank, Relate rapidly became the leading product for the management of these Enscribe databases, with its “SQL-like” syntax. Ascert has released the latest version of its Visa test driver with added EMV features. This new functionality has been included in the VersaTest Visa driver package to allow it to produce EMV Level 3 Online Message Logs (OML) when simulating the Visa network, in a manner compliant with the latest requirements from EMVCo & Visa. VersaTest is the first Level 3 OML-compliant Host Simulator published in Visa’s list of “EMVCo-qualified and Visa-confirmed L3 test tools”. EMV level 3 testing is the testing of a transaction from an EMV terminal card acceptance device to the acquirer's system and on to payment authorization systems. Ascert's Visa driver allows a virtual representation of the Visa network to be created and used to test the acquirer's acceptance of EMV Visa card originated transactions from a merchant's terminal via the acquirer's internal systems and on to Visa without physically connecting to the Visa network. A typical use would be testing an EMV contactless POS transaction from a merchant using a Visa contactless card. Once the test data has been run, the logs can be extracted and submitted to Visa as part of a certification process. As alternative methods of consumer purchase continue to be created and transaction volumes increase, the need for financial institutions to verify system capacity quickly and accurately is critical. So called “stress testing” is aimed at ensuring transactional workloads at volumes that are in line with, and above, predicted peak production levels. The project achieved transaction per second levels more than double the previous exercise conducted for the same client, and 10 times the levels they were achieving in the run up to Y2K.
